Clarity through evidence. Independence in assessment.

SAGE Evaluation is based in Northern Tasmania, providing independent, objective and evidence-based forensic vocational evaluations, employability assessments and earning capacity assessments across Australia to support informed decision-making in medico-legal and insurance contexts.

Evaluations are undertaken through a structured and impartial process, providing clear, well-reasoned professional opinions regarding an individual's vocational capabilities, employment prospects and potential earning capacity. Services may be provided in the capacity of an independent expert witness, with opinions grounded in the available evidence and relevant referral instructions.

SAGE Evaluation holds the Certified Expert Forensic Vocational Assessment (CEFVA) credential, a specialist professional certification awarded through the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors (ASORC). Certification requires demonstrated proficiency in forensic vocational assessment through formal assessment of professional knowledge, skills and competencies against established standards.

The certification program has been developed under an international certification agreement between ASORC and the United States-based Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC).

Professional Expertise & Methodology

Led by a Master's-qualified Rehabilitation Counsellor who has successfully completed the Certified Expert Forensic Vocational Assessor (CEFVA) assessment requirements, SAGE Evaluation draws on extensive experience in rehabilitation counselling, vocational assessment and complex injury presentations.

Evaluations integrate recognised assessment methodologies, individual vocational capabilities, relevant medical and psychosocial evidence, and labour market information to develop comprehensive, defensible vocational opinions.

Assessment vs Evaluation

Vocational assessment, particularly within rehabilitation settings, is generally a collaborative, person-centred process. It considers an individual's skills, experience, interests, employment preferences and vocational aspirations to identify suitable employment pathways and inform rehabilitation planning.

Forensic vocational evaluation serves a different purpose. It is an independent, evidence-based examination of vocational capacity, employability and potential earning capacity, undertaken in response to specific referral instructions.

While an individual's preferences and aspirations may be considered where relevant, the evaluation is primarily concerned with establishing what the available evidence supports, rather than identifying preferred employment outcomes. Conclusions are informed by the integration of medical and functional evidence, vocational history, transferable skills, occupational requirements and labour market conditions.

Assessment Methodology

SAGE Evaluation adopts a structured, evidence-based approach to forensic vocational evaluation. Guided by the referring instructions and circumstances of each matter, evaluations may incorporate medical and occupational record reviews, vocational interviews, transferable skills analysis, standardised assessment instruments, occupational research and labour market analysis.

Occupational findings are informed by recognised government agency data and established occupational classification systems. Where appropriate, Australian occupational information is cross-referenced against international classification systems and vocational databases to examine occupational requirements, transferable skills and employment characteristics.

Assessment methods and information sources are selected according to their relevance to the referral questions. Findings are developed through the objective integration of available evidence, with consideration given to its reliability, applicability and limitations.
